UA trustees didn't want black football players either, although a few practiced with the team in the mid 60s as walk-ons.

Wow, at 76% it looks like the underdog (Bentley) has a slight lead outright. The realistic goal for his camp was just to score enough points for a runoff. Sparks over Davis in the Democrat side isn't too much of a shocker. Unfortunately for Davis, him voting against Obamacare pissed off alot of the black community who labeled him a "sellout." Might have made a difference.

So, how did everyone's local races turn out? The big focus for Morgan County was in the school board and superintendent races. We had 2 board races and one superintendent race, and the incumbents in all 3 races came in dead last. Looks like we wanted to clean house and start over. Too bad the one board member I really really really wanted to vote out isn't up for re election this year.

Ashley Rich won Mobile DA. Not a surprise since she's running against Mark Erwin (a guy who is caught up in the Steve Nodine murder investigation).

Won all my votes but two here in Fayette Co. Voted Democrat so I could have a voice in the local races. I'm shocked that Dr. Bentley did as well as he did, I guess he was the only true campaigner in the Repubs race-meaning no negativity like the other two front runners. I'm purely sick of that type of politics!
Locally-Sheriff Rodney Ingle won another term over former sheriff Hubert Norris and newcomer and pawn shop owner Billy Gilbert. No runoff will be needed. Local amendement #1 went in by a large margin. This covers Fayette, Lamar and Pickens Counties and will fund the Drug Task Force through raised court costs on the drug cases. Funding for this unit was cut due to the economic slump and this measure was well timed and logical. Cities of Haleyville in Winston county and Aliceville in Pickens voted to allow the legal sales of alcohol. This brings the record to 2-2 on these votes with Fayette voting June 22 and Guin just now getting their petition certified for a wet/dry vote. Winfield remained dry by 5 votes and Hamilton did the same by about 60 votes. I guess we'll just have to get along being the retirement center for NW Alabama. Sux!!!

There was one "WTF?" type race here in Morgan County. Our sheriff was seeking a third term. I've never voted for this guy because our family can't stand him from way back when. He was jailed for starving his inmates with not enough food for one adequate meal a day. He spent only a small amount on the food and pocketed the rest of the budget for himself, over $200,000. When he was arrested just over a year ago and went to trial the judge found him contempt of court. Yet in the election yesterday he actually had the most freakin' votes. Thankfully he'll be in a runoff where hopefully this bum can get voted out. Or else i will lose all faith in this county.

Chatom passed their wet-dry vote by around 100 votes.
